MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – J. E. “Eddie” Mathews, 63, formerly of Crawfordsville, died early Thursday morning in his home in Minneapolis. He was a 1926 graduate of Crawfordsville High School and a 1931 graduate of Wabash College, where he was a member of the Sphinx Club, Lambda Chi social fraternity and varsity football team. He was born in Indianapolis Nov. 2, 1908, a son of Harry and Martha Mathews. Survivors include the wife; the mother, Mrs. Harry Mathews of Crawfordsville; three sisters, Mrs. Mable Vice and Mrs. Catherine Calvert, both of Crawfordsville, and Mrs. Marie Clahan of Indianapolis and a brother, Tom Mathews of Indianapolis. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in Davies Mortuary Burial will be in Crystal Lake Cemetery in Minnesota. – jlr
